Rookie Camp Gives New Marchers a Jump on Fall 2016 Season
Last week, new Dragon Band members reported to Carroll HS for the band's annual three-day Rookie Camp. These after-school sessions, overseen by director Ken Johnson and taught by veteran band student Leadership, focus on marching fundamentals: attention position, body carriage, stride styles, forward/backward movement, "slides," and many other key elements.
On the third and final day of Rookie Camp, all Varsity marchers — new members and veterans alike — came together on the practice field to march as a unit for the first time.
The final highlight of 2016's Rookie Camp was the unveiling of the Dragon Band's 2016 competition show, titled "Contact." Assistant Band Director David Walker introduced the program in the form of a teaser video (link to follow soon ... stay tuned).
